  • Martyr's Review:
For a demo band, Orsus isn't half bad. And although they aren't brutal or thrashy they do have potential. I checked out their website and they are currently in the studio with Kol Marshall who has worked with Ministry, Mercyful Fate and King Diamond to name a few. Unfortunately I didn't do my homework to find out exactly what albums of the above mentioned bands he has produced. So I'll leave that up to you, if you're at all curious. Let's hope that the collaboration will do some creative good.

Orsus is based out of New York, a breeding ground for countless music acts such as Life of Agony, Suffocation and Immolation to name a few. Back to this demo. It's very melodic. Not melodic as in Swedish death metal, but judging by their influences (TOOL, Finger Eleven, Pearl Jam, A Perfect Circle, Deftones, Staind, Linkin Park, Machine Head, Strata, Coheed and Cambria, Sparta, Thursday, blah blah) you get the idea. The singer has a very strong mid to high vocal range but at times seems kind of "flighty." The bassist, drummer and guitarists are all good musicians and create seamless pieces of music, hopefully they'll push the envelope in the future. Although Orsus isn't my cup of tea, they do show promise as far as cracking into the commercial music arena. It's a dirty job, but someones gotta do it.
