Musashi's Review:
As far as demos go, this is really good. Actually it's more of a four-song EP rather than a demo. There is a color booklet with lyrics printed inside. The production and artwork are very good. It definitely gave me a good vibe when I pulled it from the pile.Giving the CD a couple of spins, it becomes apparent that Orcus do not stray far from their deathmetal roots. The riffs are heavy and the vocals are gritty. Actually, with the lyric sheet in hand I can understand what Rich is saying. Does that mean it's not heavy enough? Maybe. I'll let it slide. The lyrics seem to revolve around bleeding, blood, vampires, and exsanguination. Fun stuff.
The downside of the CD is the performances. There are a lot of parts that are out of time. That makes me crazy. I hate hearing timing problems on CDs. That's something that should caught and fixed like a frisky terrier. Of course, I like to give bands the benefit of the doubt and say maybe it's a cool synchopation or the tempo change was part of the song. I don't think that's the case here.
The upside of the CD is its continuity and clarity. It is a well produced CD and gives a great sense of what this band is about. They have a good sound. They are very metal and have some good songs. If you are into blood and/or bleeding, you should check out Orcus.
