Musashi's Review:
Does anybody still listen to cassettes? I'm serious! I hate tape demos. I have been trying for weeks to get this demo, my walkman, two batteries and a computer all in one location so I could write this review. What a pain in the ass!So I have to ask what goes through the mind of a band when they put a package together for a demo review. I open up this package and there are more flyers for more bands and zines and other crap than I can even name here. Fuck it! Here goes: Sludge, Pandemon, Unhappiness Kompilation Two, Visions Distribution, Intoxicated, Church Bizarre, Morticite, Drogheda, Unbalanced, Vomit Remnants, Inner Rage Records, Mechanix, Gnosis, Yattering, Le Lettre de Sappho #8, and Fatal Underground #6. What the fuck was I supposed to review again? Oh, One Last Sin, here is a flyer from them. It says they have a new CD. So why the fuck do they send me this crappy looking tape? Oh, wait here is a form letter addressed to no one in particular. He asks if we are interested in distributing the CD. No, Joel, but thanks for asking. Here is a hint: if you want someone to distribute your CD, send them one to listen to.
I'll summarize the bio for you: The band started in 1995, they released three (3) 7" EPs overseas and have just put out a full length CD.
Well it's time to listen to this tape. Oh an NWA sample. That's a good way to get sued. But seriously, the first song kind of kicks ass. There is some good guitar riffing going on. The recording is shitty. The sound quality is shitty. The tape looks shitty. But hey, they have a good song here. I'm actually impressed. I can see why they've got some labels to move their stuff overseas. It's very metal - good metal. Now do I assume from the crappy quality of the tape that the CD will be equally as bad or do I make the leap of faith and say that they cleaned things up for the CD? I'm not sure what to think.
So let's just say that One Last Sin is a good band experiencing some technical difficulties. My advice is to stop sending out crap. Always put your best foot forward. I can't imagine most people would have taken the time to rifle through all the crap to get to this ugly tape. If it wasn't for my editor constantly prodding me to review that demo, I would have thrown it in the trash just because it was a crappy tape with a bunch of lame flyers in an envelope. As good as these guys are, I would not have felt bad in the least trashing their demo. They're not the only metal band from upstate New York. They have to be a little better at distinguishing themselves.
