  • Musashi's Review:
When I opened this up, I was not sure whether or not it was a demo. The CD looks very professional and it is released on Lord Slog Records. So I went to the Mudslinger website and discovered that this demo was recorded in the singer's studio and released on the band's own label, Lord Slog. I think that qualifies this as a demo.

The Mudslinger website was very informative and very well done. I discovered that Mudslinger is a band from San Francisco that is influenced by doom and death metal bands. The CD was released in March and the band has opened for Opeth and Nevermore. Pretty cool.

Cover The Sun is an excellent CD. It only contains five songs, but is thirty minutes long. Most of the time I get pretty bored after listening to a song for more than 2 minutes. However, in this case I really like the long songs. Suprisingly, this CD keeps my interest throughout. They manage to keep the songs interesting by changing the riffs and really letting the songs breathe. They get heavy, then get mellow, and then real heavy again. They are really good songwriters which is all too rare in metal music.

The sound is typical Bay Area heavy metal. I really like that sound. It sounds like Testament to me with hints of Clutch. It is really heavy with good grooves and sick vocals. The singer is all over the place with his voice and it is really cool. Urteaga can really belt it out in all registers and sing as well as grunt.

I'm really struggling to find something bad to say about this CD and I can't. The recording is excellent and so is the music. The CD is better produced than a lot of releases I have from bands on "real" labels. In fact, I am convinced now that this is not a demo, but rather a legitimate EP and should be purchased. I highly recommend giving this a listen. These guys must have sold their souls to the devil and asked for a good review in return!
