  • Musashi's Review:
This review goes out to five guys in California. According to the note that came with this Mower demo, "there are at least 5 guys out here in California that'd appreciate it [my review]." Here's to them!

Mower is a band for skaters, surfers and snowboarders as well as for metalheads in general. The first song "Zone" is a good Nu Metal headbanger. Harmonized vocals and heavy guitars really drive this song. I like the energy and the overall groove. The ending is a little weird but by that time I'm already four minutes into the song. If they redid it, I would push for a slightly different way to end the song. The main hook is catchy enough.

The refrain that tells me to "Get out of my fucking face!" coupled with the rap vocals tells me "Restraint" is pulled from the Limp Bizkit songbook. The song is full of angry sentiment and youthful energy. Although the song is somewhat generic, it is fun.

Mower uses some drunken phone messages in between songs that are funny. I think they are more interesting than the B-Movie samples that are popular with so many bands. "Long Awaited Riot" is a quick song which is very thrashy. It is not as interesting as the other two songs.

If nothing else, Mower has a lot of energy and that comes through on this CD. The recording quality is good, but could use some work. The songs are good. If I was looking for new music to skate to (if I actually skated), I would definitely download "Zone" into my mp3 player (if I actually owned an mp3 player). Check out there stuff on mp3.com. I think you'll like it. Speaking of websites, Mower's site is pretty good for a basic, no-frills site.
