Behemoth's Review:
Morpheus was born summer of 2001 in Alexandroupolis, near Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece with a population of a million inhabitants, one of the oldest cities in Europe. It was founded around 315 B.C., on a site of old prehistoric settlements going back to 2300 B.C., by Cassander, King of Macedonia, and accordingly named after his wife, Thessaloniki, sister of Alexander the Great.Morpheus was formed with the goal of creating intense blackened thrash metal by Thanasis (vocals), Chris (guitars), Zisis (guitars), Spiros (bass), & Mike (drums). In January of 2004, Delomelanicon was recorded at Nemesis Recording Studio in Kavala. The musical styles are an intriguing mixture of both melodic black metal and death metal. The vision of Morpheus appears to be, release material, which captures the true spirit of European metal, i.e. Dimmu. After all metal is not just about image but also about quality.
Delomelanicon features four tracks, with a preponderance of keyboards and heavy drumming. The release includes the intro "Sir Luceat Lux," title track "Delomelanicon," "An Addition to the Myth" and the finale "Aperture in Demise." It's hard to get a read on this band with only four songs to decipher however; monotony and repetition are not overtly obvious. Morpheus focuses on delivering a concept-based album invoking visions of the primordial world. Lyrics are extremely dark and fascinating, albeit blasphemous. Liner note indicates let Morpheus guide you, that's kind of cool, un-burden your soul; why not - seems like a noble pursuit. Production is competent and handles the heaviest of notes with ample dexterity.
Morpheus recently performed at four open festivals in Alexandroupolis, Leukimi and Ardas. Additional live concerts and recordings are planned. Let's wish Morpheus well with future endeavors. Behemoth's invisibility is enigmatic.
