Behemoth's Review:
Morbius is Portuguese band founded in late 1997, and par for the course, suffered through a myriad of line-up changes before settling on: Manuel Pinto (drums), Cristiano Gomez (guitars/vocals), Marco Ribeiro (guitars) and Rui Ferreira (bass). The band originally formed as a thrash metal unit, but after a few years evolved by integrating death metal elements from bands like Obituary, Death, and Carcass. The band continued to rehearse and play live, ultimately winning a local battle of the bands contest, which offered much needed exposure. In 2003, Morbius finally recorded its first record titled Morbivs. This is a good debut effort featuring fierce vocals, fast drumming and ample heavy guitars. The five tracks are built around solid drumming, blistering riffs, frequent time changes and competent guitar work, which all demonstrate technical prowess. This record is well produced and features multiple time changes from melodic to hard charging brutality. Notable tracks include "Revenge" and "Dead Secret."
Morbius mimic the 90's death metal scene, which I guess is all right. The band is tight and no doubt this quartet will improve with age.
