Slither's Review:
At the core of this demo is a well recorded presentation of melodramatic gothic rock/metal in the vein of earlier Lacuna Coil. Simplistic riff and song structures serve as the backdrop for this Finnish five-piece's female fronted assault of melancholy. The atmosphere Miseria are attempting is admirable but a few factors hold their good ideas back, and the final product falls short of success. The lyrics are all in English and the sentence structure has a few very awkward moments and some turns of phrase that are pretty far off the mark. Bands from northern Europe making the decision to sing in English never cease to amaze me; songs on this disc like "Night of Fetus" illustrate the calamity that can ensue when one's grasp on a language is tentative at best. The melodies these guys go for are really quite good and demonstrate a knack for catchy writing but the two vocalists clutter up good intentions with lack of experience. The young lady is on point a majority of the time and when they harmonize together things mesh nicely but alone, the male singer is truly awful. (Again, very similar to Lacuna Coil.) This four song demo was recorded all the way back in 2003 and since then it appears this group has recorded a second demo and financed a self release full length with no label support. Even with minimal effort this group could be on par with other more prominent Gothic acts by this time, so if the female fronted forlorn thing floats your boat seek out Miseria.
