  • Musashi's Review:
Some of you might recognize Derek Kerswill as Shadows Fall's new drummer. He sent me this demo of his other band called Medium. This is an excellent CD and although it has only five songs, it is jam packed with a lot of good music.

As soon as I hit play I was thinking this kind of reminds me of Soundgarden. As the CD keeps playing, it still reminds me of Soundgarden. The guitars have that whiny, stratty tone and the riffs are in that grundge meets stoner rock, pentatonal modality. I like it like that.

Dean Ross does a good job of singing some soulful, Ian Astbury meets Chris Cornell sounding vocals. The music is a definitely a cross of the Cult meets Soundgarden. Sorry guys, no death metal growls here.

This is a really excellent CD filled with great music. This is really close to a five skull CD. The only reason I am holding back is because I think it could be a little more metal. They are missing what I refer to as the third testicle. That extra testicle is what separates the rock bands from the metal bands. Don't get me wrong! This is a tuff CD. The music is really good. The production is excellent. The CD just happens to be a little bit more rock than metal. If you are a Cult or Soundgarden fan or just looking for something new out of Boston, then go to Medium's website and buy Terra Firma.
