Under normal conditions, I don't think I would have reviewed this CD for Metal Judgment. However, Mantaray's CD has a picture of topless dancer on the cover so I figured reviewing the CD would give me an excuse to stare at the CD cover for a while.Mantaray.K-D is not metal. They don't call themselves metal. They call themselves a "drunk n roll" band. They play thrashy punk rock like the Ramones and LA Guns. Not my favorite stuff. I just expect more from Swedish bands. Don't you? I want neo-classical guitar metal.
The demo sounds good for a thrash band. Personally I prefer the punk-pop production of Green Day. In fact, I think if these guys teamed up with Max Martin or Anders Bagge they could come up with some super punk pop that would drive the teenage kids crazy. I don't think that's what Mantaray is aiming for. In fact, I don't think the world needs another Max Martin hit driving the kids crazy.
I'm sure as long as these guys are getting laid, they could care less about the music. So I wish them well. They are always welcome to send more photos of their journeys through Sweden's strip clubs. However, if they want me to review something of theirs, they should focus on playing some real metal!
