This band has the word "anus" right in their name: Malsanus. That is not a good sign. Malsanus is a Brazilian death metal band. I generally like most things Brazilian, but I have to draw the line here. I just cannot get behind a band called Malsanus.The sound of this band is reminiscent of the noise that happens between songs in a rehearsal when everyone is noodling on their instruments and not paying attention to the other people in the room. There are crazy drum parts and fast, sweeping guitar arpeggios and growling vocals, but it is hard to tell that they are all supposed to be linked together. "Self-Destruction" has some moments where everyone stops and starts at the same time, but mostly I experience cacophony.
This is not to say that Malsanus is bad. I think their style of music is very cool on a lot of levels. It has a freeform jazz odyssey vibe to it, a la Spinal Tap Mach II. These guys have great chops. The guitar and drums are fast and clean and technical. I really like that. Personally, I would rather hear them try to write a few songs in which they get to work out all their amazing chops, but that's me. If you are into music that is over the top with riffing, then Malsanus is a South American treat. If you prefer something has some cohesion and some form to it, then look elsewhere. I'm in middle with this one.
