Musashi's Review:
I got this CD in a cool looking black envelope. I liked that. It stood out in my mail. I was psyched to see it. The package contained a black and white photo, a bio, a CD and sticker. Overall, it looked very professional. I was excited to listen to it. The first song, "Held Within," starts off pretty slow with just the drums. I do not like it at first. I think if you start out a CD with a drum beat, the drums should sound huge. These drums sound really dead. The song does not real grab me until the chorus which is pretty good. Krista's vocals are very passionate and carry the song."Heaven Can Wait" sounds like Lucubro covering Alice In Chains covering Black Sabbath. It's a dark song and is my favorite on the CD. Although, I am again aware of the poor recording quality of the CD. The whole thing sounds like it was done on an 8-track machine. Good enough for a demo but given the nice quality of the artwork and packaging, I am expecting a better recording.
"Afraid To Be Alone" picks up the pace. Although, it's a good song which also reminds me of Alice In Chains. "Another World" is the worst recording on the CD. It really sounds like noise. The hi-hats sound like trash can lids. I am really looking forward to the end of the CD at this point.
Despite the poor recording quality, this is a good demo. It highlights the singer and it also showcases the band's abilities. Lucubro is very talented. Their sound is melodic and metallic. If they keep moving forward, they have a lot of potential to be a good melodic metal band. Their bio says they just formed in January. It is still too early to tell what the future holds for Lucubro. Right now they need to pen some headbanging hits.
