Sabbath's Review:
Because I feel completely sorry for this band, and pity them greatly (mostly because their info sheet was hand written on a white sheet of printer paper in the most god awful handwriting I have ever seen...I mean come on guys, how hard is it to type up some god damn info on a computer and push "print?"), I decided to review their demo this week.Proclaiming their influences derive from "older" Soilwork, At the Gates, and Dark Tranquillity, Kiriyama are struggling to sound similar to what these bands have established musically. And struggling might be too nice of a word here - more like desperately and irritatingly trying to sound similar to these bands.
First of all, the recording was not what I would call "Swedish" material. The guitars sounded sloppy (i.e., the opposite of clean), riffs were borderline boring, and the vocals were way to low in the mix to get a good idea of what is going on here. P.S. The vocals sucked ass - they sounded like a really bad impression of Björn Strid on The Chainheart Machine.
Note: Track 3 was particularly annoying, and the breakdowns sucked.
Secondly and lastly, Kiriyama need to raise the bar a lot (or just build a bar, that would be cool too haha). I am not saying these guys have NO potential, however, I am saying they need to work their asses a lot harder to get anywhere in the competitive market of melodic metal. Half-assed material will not get you anywhere when you are competing against catchy, and selling, European metal. Not to mention competing with all the dominating hardcore out there right now. The only thing half-assed material will get is your demo thrown in a large pile of trash, which is where this one is going after it comes out of my CD player.
All I can say, in conclusion, is good luck to this wretched band.
1 Skull (for mentioning Soilwork. They rule.)
