  • Blind's Review:
What do you get when you cross Warrel Dane (Nevermore), the dude from Stuck Mojo, System of a Down, and Tool? You get this interesting New York City-based act--Kill by Inches.

This vocalist is interesting. Sometimes, he sounds like Warrel Dane. Others, he sounds like Phil Anselmo. Sometimes he raps; others, he growls and howls. He has good range--that's for sure.

These guys obviously dished out some cash for a good producer, as this self-titled CD has excellent sound quality. The guitars a bit too low for the occasional double bass drum assault, but it really doesn't detract from the quality of the album.

The music: Kill by Inches calls it "groove core". I think it sounds like Sacred Reich, but with a bit more nu-metal mixed in. Plenty of grooving--just as the band alleges. Some parts sound like Superjoint Ritual; others, as I said, sound like Tool.

All in all, Kill by Inches deserves your attention. With the right label, this band could certainly go places. They are "dark" and accessible at the same time.

I applaud this band. Despite a foolish CD cover and inner tray, plus a questionable name, this disc was pretty damned fine.

    Two word review: good stuff.
