Blind's Review:
Origin - edge = Kilfast. The result is frustration-read on to find out why. This music kind of reminds me of St. Anger; you can hear the little bits of brilliance scattered throughout, but unfortunately, they're bogged down in the shitty music miasma that is the rest of the disc.
A really good example of this is the end of track six, "Helpless in Heaven". Shit sounds like it's heating up for some hard and fast riffing and blasts, but then the song ends-like a bridge stuck in there with a forgotten chorus. It's very annoying.
I would love to work with Kilfast to rework a bunch of their songs. This band has a great deal of potential; they just need some direction. I'm not saying I'm some metal aficionado, but I have many ideas as to when parts should speed up, slow down, etc.
That's another thing-the songs just end sometimes on a random note. Why? This isn't traditional song structure. Sometimes it works, like with Meshuggah, but take, say, Origin, and blast away, and then just abruptly end the song after a bridge or two, and it leaves you wondering what the hell just happened.
You are a disappointing beef stew, Kilfast. Add some more meat, and take away some shitty carrots or something (filler), and you will satisfy many hungry metalheads.
Good band; bad formula. Period.
