  • Musashi's Review:
It seems the last few reviews of mine have been rather kind. I guess this is a good sign. The quality of demos is getting better. This demo from Kevorkian's Dream out of Missouri is good. I hope I keep getting more demos like this. I was disappointed that the link to their website didn't work. I was hoping to get a jpeg of the CD cover from the site.

I am generally impressed by the CD. The artwork is excellent. Cool photos of everyone in the band. I'm not sure if I like the name of the band, but I've definitely heard worse names. The CD came with little stickers and a one-page bio on their own letterhead. Very professional operation. Big points for that.

The demo is well recorded. Some parts were not as well recorded as others and sounded really muddy, but for the most part the CD is good quality. Actually it sounds like the whole CD was recorded using SM57 microphones (which are excellent microphones but have limited sonic range.) What I mean is that there isn't enough clarity on the high end. I'm just speculating, but I would recommend getting some large diaphragm condensor mics the next time you record. The first song "Stream Of Pain" reminded me of Tool meets Limp Bizkit. It has an atmospheric quality that reminds me of Tool. It also has heavy section that reminds me of Limp Bizkit. Overall, Kevorkian's Dream is a mall metal band. Kevorkian's Dream play some very convincing riffs on the song "No Weight." The other 2 songs on the CD, "Two Faces" and "Ego Killer" are both fast and furious and have lots good moments in them. Overall, the riffs on the album are heavy and played with authority but sound kind of cliche...I mean I could swear I've heard some of this stuff before. In fact, "No Weight" and "Two Faces" have very similar riffs. What's up with that?

Kevorkian's Dream are a good band. I just hope they can find a way to distinguish themselves from the other good bands that play exactly the same kind of music. Despite the name, I do not want to kill myself after listening to them.
