  • Kefka X's Review:
Kevorkian is mid-to-driving paced death metal from the New York area that borrows heavily from bands such as Arch Enemy (the guitars are the primary force of the music), and Hypocrisy, just to name a few. This demo is more of a sampler of three tracks from their newest album.

This is definitely some good music that I’m hearing. It’s not exactly anything original, but it gets the job done. Production is a big plus here, and weighs each song down while keeping the guitars razor-sharp. Drums are tuned and recorded just right so that everything is crisp, but almost electronic-sounding. There are some interesting time-signatures and changes that keep the music from not being monotonous and, at the same time, hold a feeling of fluency. The breakdowns are super-heavy and fun to headbang to, even if they’re typically variations of a hundred-thousand other breakdowns you’ve heard in the past.

Unfortunately, I’m suffering from the same syndrome that I have with several other bands of this caliber. I know that once I’m finished reviewing this demo, I’m putting it on the shelf and moving on to something new, without looking back or thinking about the CD. Kevorkian is a great band, but they still have a middle-tier feel to the music. Regardless, this is still a middle-tier band that is a little more than middle-tier, but I still feel like something is missing. For now I’ll give this an above-middle-tier skull rating until I figure out what it is that isn’t there.
