Redwolff's Review:
This is the second self-released album from Jaww, their first one was called Southbound and has been described as sounding like Machine Head or Biohazard. According to the singer, the new album, which was released either in February or March of 2000 (the oracles were not clear on this), reflects a sound they feel is more fitting to them. The singer, Doug, was previously in a death-metal band in Toronto before breaking off, along with the bassist of that band, and starting Jaww. That bassist is gone, and I must assume that the other members of the band were from a more punk background, because what we've got here in Lifetimebomb is metalcore. They remind me of Pro-Pain meets Entombed meets Sheer Terror or maybe Black Flag. In an interview with The Fang Magazine, Doug states that the band delivers "aggressive, pant-shitting deathrock," but death vocals are far in the minority on this album, although the comment raises an enticing visual, don't it?Although this has to be considered a demo, it's obvious the band has been together for years, and also obvious that they can pick their engineers. The mix is very professional and slick, every instrument can be heard, the bass is as prominent, or as understated, as the cymbals. As with a lot of metal albums, the lyrics in these songs are often convoluted or incomplete but paint pictures of bloody uprisings against corrupt leaders, friends succumbing to addiction (I think) and enticing, disease-ridden whores. Basically it's the collapse of the human race in only six songs, ladies and gentlemen.
This is a talented and hard-working band. I don't know what they are doing without a label. My advice to the band, though, would be to get your website up and running with the merchandise and MP3 buttons working so that people can hear you and buy this album. Also, include tour information so that people can come see you live. I'm sure they would be impressed.
