Metal Militia's Review:
Have you ever listened to a cd and just been completely befuddled as to exactly what the fuck is going on? Well be prepared for another trip into "what the fuck-dom" because Infidel?/Castro! is truly bizarre. Throw together electronic musings, fuzzed out guitars, movie samples, the rare metal interlude, and just a mass amount of noise and one has the beginnings of what makes up this demo. After listening to the cd on my own a few times I was so completely lost as to how to describe it that I had to go to the band's website and see if they could possibly explain what exactly it was they were trying to do with this release. The answer I came across was:
Case Studies in Bioentropy is a cd. It contains musicof a cinematic nature and a linear structure. It is anartsy horror movie played on a blank screen, and it isthe soundtrack to itself. It is not one massive piece, nor is it a series of unrelated songs each act doesnot pick up where the last one left off, but thescenes within an act do form a sequence. Between eachof the three acts, there is an interlude of a lessabrasive nature. As pretentious as that sounds, it did make things a little clearer. Basically each "act" is story and each act consists of two or more tracks on the cd. For example the first act is called "The Violence of Hygiene and The Act of Sterilization" and the first two tracks on the cd are each scene in the act. The "plots" of the acts are carried out via various noises and samples from movies; now it's kind of hard to determine what exactly the point of each act is, but the first one revolves around medicine and purification, which makes sense according to the title. As the different acts play out, the themes become more abstract and bizarre. The website offers explanations for each act, and it would seem that in order to get the highest satisfaction out of this album one would need to listen to the cd and read the explanations at the same time. It's a chore, but the music is truly bizarre and I have to give these guys credit for the oddity they have created that sounds like nothing I have ever heard before. Must be experienced to truly understand what I am talking about.
