Behemoth's Review:
Infecting the Soul play decent death metal in the vein of Napalm Death. The band is comprised of Bryan Lanting (guitar), Kevin Meredith (guitar), Rick McCoy (vocals), Al Weihofen (bass), and Tom Osborn, Ozzy's son (the drummer). This Chicago area quintet released the three-song demo titled Of Divine Purity, last year. The style is pummeling death metal, which incorporates elements of Swedish melodic death metal. Their songs are filled with thick riffs, cool guitar harmonies, and death growls. Overall, the playing is tight and arrangements interesting and fairly complex. Instruments are played confidently; featured riffs are metal-edged, played with blasting speed. The production is solid, bringing out their signature wicked guitar sound.Infecting the Soul fuses old and new style black metal, but unfortunately fails to achieve a reasonable balance between extremities. Although, to be fair, with only a three-song demo it's really difficult to make a musical score breathe. Pending new material should demonstrate more creative angles and vocal range. Lyrically speaking the tone is bleak and deals with subconscious visions and fragmented nerve endings. Featured tracks include "Intro/Epilogue," "In the absence of all desire," and "Parallels." Their full-length debut album Of Divine Shadow Purity should be out soon and according to my sources combines American edged death metal with Swedish melodies. Let's put in a vote for the band to get signed.
In a totally unrelated related matter, Tony and Glenn (Deicide) send their regards to the Metal Judgment readers.
