  • Sabbath's Review:
Well, here I am reviewing yet another demo, and I am actually happy to review this one. I was super pleased to have this demo handed to me, in the flesh, by IdolEyes themselves, which put some faces and personalities with the name.

IdolEyes are extremely heavy, and can be compared to bands like System of a Down and Hatebreed, however, they throw their own stylistic twist on this type of music. I recently had the opportunity to go see IdolEyes live when they played at the Whiskey a Go-Go here in Hollywood, and I was extremely impressed with their live set . . . to say the least.

Random Note: I also tend to like any band that plays at a venue within walking distance to the Rainbow. It just makes things soooo much easier . . .

I was expecting a small crowd for their performance, and a sound that was most likely identical to that of System of a Down - I was fucking wrong!! Not only were there a lot of people, but the vocalist, Grey, pounded the crowd with such intense, guttural roars mixed with high-pitched screams that they knocked System of a Down out of the game, which satisfied me more than anything. Grey had some back-up assistance on one of their tracks courtesy of Jacoby from Deeds of Flesh (way to go Jacoby . . . haha). And just when I thought their set was winding down to an end, IdolEyes preformed a cover of the moralistically infamous Oompa Loompa song, from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Now this track brought me back many years, though IdolEyes put an edgy spin on what I remembered of the song. This cover was fast, groove-laden, heavy, and brutal as fuck! This is my favourite track so far.

I really hope these guys get the break they deserve, and get signed to a label that will respectfully produce a debut album for them. Getting back to Subversive, although it is somewhat low quality, it does not accurately reflect the ability IdolEyes possesses because their live set simply blew me away! Give them a chance, and listen to their demo. Then sit back, relax, try to catch a show, and wait for a debut!!
