  • Slither's Review:
When the forces of talent and technology both simultaneously abandon a band, they have no hope of standing up to any scrutiny. In what may be a really bad board dump, Hold on Humanity has packaged a truly terrible four song selection. This fucker may as well have been recorded through one microphone by an engineer with Downs Syndrome. The CD claims it was recorded at CBGB's; I am no expert on the New York scene, but I would think a club so famous could pull off a more competent live tracking. To sum up this production: they have effectively captured a mono recording of a vocalist, a snare drum and the pick attack of a bass guitar.

The material itself, you say? From what I can hear of the two original songs they aren't bad, but it's mostly just thrashy sounding fuzz with a standard issue tough guy vocalist dominating the songs. Where this abysmal album goes from bad to worse is in the cover songs. I am not a huge Alice in Chains fan, but if you are going to cover one of their songs, success is pretty much in the vocalist's hands. James Annucci's Layne Staley impression is laughable at best. The last track on this demo is truly vomit inspiring, as if Dying Fetus' "Kill your mother, Rape your Dog" wasn't a gay enough example of slam death metal, we the listeners are treated to a sloppy version run through the crapulence filter with the suck knob cranked to 11.

A four track horribly produced live album with only two original songs is hardly the foot I would set forward when looking to attract new fans. That being said, this could be a very poor representation of what the band is actually like. Go check out a show if you are in the NY area, but do not under any circumstances pay money for this demo.
