Piss Angel's Review:
I remember when I bought Soilwork's album The Chainheart Machine, and the first song kicked in so hard I thought my head would explode leaving brain matter all over the walls. This two-song demo by Grendel starts off the same way, but that's the only comparison. Instead of a ferocious scream, Grendel's Mikko Virtanen chooses the clean, singing vocals and the music quickly loses the intensity for melody and structure. The second song is more of a power-ballad that Bon Jovi might have appreciated in the '80's.I'm not trying to say that this band is bad, because they are not that at all. Every member of this band proves to be a phenomenal musician. What I am saying is that my personal taste happens to prefer angst driven music as opposed to vocal melodies and sweeping instrumentation. So, to me, hearing those first few measures of power and aggression really got me excited and then the rest of the record did not deliver to those expectations. This is however a good band and if you enjoy melodic songs with powerful singing this band is a definite to check out.
