Kefka X's Review:
Oh goodie! Yet ANOTHER band who claims to "provide a musical experience that goes outside the box." Man, haven't had enough of those! I've been getting these demos for a couple of years now that proclaim these bold words yet never live up to my expectations. I'm waiting for the band who doesn't include a promo kit with these words printed on them that will impress the hell out of me. That will be the band that truly breaks the mold...the one that speaks the least.Anyways, erm...Generica from Pennsylvania. The music itself is sufficient, if not adequate. It's a paradox. It's not commonplace but it's not exactly original. Generica is more on the rock than the metal side, taking influence/refuge in the stylings of bands such as Acid Bath, Audioslave, Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine. There are even some breakdowns here and there that will satisfy the hardcore junkie who enjoys Candiria and Poison the Well (the older stuff). The vocals aren't exactly impressive (in fact...when they're clean, they're kind of bad), but sometimes unique, with frontman Paul Nacchia using a somewhat surreal, megaphone-laden approach that smacks of Steve Austin (of Today Is The Day...no, not that bald wrestler dude). For the most part Motions of Theory is listenable, but not necessary. Ultimately this falls in the same category as all those lesser-known East Coast metally-rock bands who can't break the mold and give me that something extra.
