If only every band could be this together…Fraise have released their debut album Hellicornia under "self-financed" circumstances, on their OWN label (humorously entitled: Label la Production), and recording this album in their OWN studio, Studio Sonica. These guys own the word "dedication," and I hope I can provide them with a "dedicated" review haha. And to make things even better, these boys are from Sweden - land of the melodic. Mycket Bra!
Fraise describes themselves as a mix between Power and Heavy Metal, and I guess I will give them that. Right off the bat, Jesper's vocals were immediately captivating. The first band that came to mind while listening to these guys was Hammerfall; but the minute I heard the keyboards come in, I thought of Sonata Arctica. (And any new band that makes me think of Sonata Arctica is great in my book.) Jesper has a very commanding voice that ties this band together perfectly. I really liked the guitar solos on Hellicornia - Anders really knows his shit, and his melodic ear really becomes apparent on "Fight With Fire."
Fraise is definitely more on the Power-ish side, and I loved it. Anyone who likes Heavy, powerful, melodic, and well-crafted Metal will most definitely like them!! For a more upbeat and happy Metal experience, Fraise will deliver you pleasure.
