  • Redwolff's Review:
While I was listening to this demo for the first time, our original demo reviewer, Musashi, stopped by to borrow some software. He got this look on his face like a dog trying to identify a smell. "I know," I said, "They're very derivative." "Yeah," he replied, "it sounds like they just sampled a bunch of different bands."

That is almost exactly what Flood sounds like. Despite this, their website extols their "creative, original modern hard rock." I have to almost totally disagree with that description, but what I can say is that Flood has a gift for plucking out the hooks and riffs that have sold the most albums for other bands and utilizing them in their own compositions. That is a talent, and it involves a nose for money. Their PR sheet compares Flood with Sevendust, Linkin Park and System of a Down; we already have a band capitalizing on the weird SOTD sound, they are called Dog Fashion Disco. Sevendust is one of the most lackluster, unenergetic metal bands to come out in the last few years. And Linkin Park? Why would anyone in their right minds compare themselves to Linkin Park? I guess you didn't get the memo boys, but Linkin Park are not critically acclaimed. If these are the bands that Flood aspire to sound like, they've done a good job with that, but you might be surprised to hear that a mix of the aforementioned bands, plus a little Tool, doesn't actually sound that good. SOTD are a band with integrity, in my opinion, but adding the nutritionally-void pop that Linkin Park puts out and the "just stops short of metal" boringcore of Sevendust creates a sound that's safe for the radio and your daughter's CD collection. It will remind the unenlightened of enough popular bands to make them think that Flood would be a good CD to take to the next Greek kegger.

On the plus side, the production on this disc is not bad, except for the drums, which take on that pickle bucket sound now and again. The songs are all about three minutes long, which is also a good thing, as another cycle of verse-chorus tacked on to any of these would force me to tear off another skull. Let me just say this: Flood are obviously trying their best to make it big. They are just not metal, but then again they never claimed to be, they call themselves a hard rock band. So why on earth would they send their CD here? Now that Savage is gone, nobody's giving these radio-friendly popcore bands five skulls anymore. You may have two, Flood.
