Zilla's Review:
Finland seems to be a breeding ground for young, talented metal bands and Entrophia is no exception. I mean, hell, the average age of these guys is only 18 years old!According to their press package, the band has been around since 1997, going through the usual name and band changes all young bands go through. Wait a minute... 1997? That means these kids were like 12 years old when they started. Nice!
Anyway... They've recorded a couple of demos and gained decent press, especially with their last recording In Glory I'll Die.
Which leads us up to their latest 3-song offering Game Over. Stylistically, Entrophia is a blend of melodic, power Finnish metal ala Stratovarius or Sonata Artica mixed with a vocalist more in line with Blind Guardian's Hansi Kursch.
The vocals are, in fact, my major complaint, not always fitting the melodies and structures laid out by the rest of the band. The sing-songy, audience participation song "True Angels" is where I notice this most, sounding flat, gruff and off-key. The Blind Guardian influenced tracks "Blood and Darkness" and "Game Over" fit his approach much better.
There is a lot of talent here in Entrophia and I hope they continue to grow. The fact that they aren't trying to clone Stratovarius or Blind Guardian, but rather blend and evolve the styles is a great thing. Continue the evolution guys, you're on the right track!
