Metal Militia's Review:
NWOBHM meets Led Zeppelin meets Motley Crue lite metal? Could be interesting, and Eliphas Horn are not bad for what they are. Undeniably a pop rock/metal band, they manage to create it in such a way that can maintain listener interest for at least two songs. Although I doubt I could handle more than the two songs on this sampler I find that these songs are decent and warrant a few listens. If you can imagine some Zeppelin guitar lines with Ozzy on vocals and NWOBHM type lyrics all sugarcoated and dumbed down a little bit, then, you've got Eliphas Horn. The music is simple and catchy, the lyrics are "dark" considering that this isn't catering to the metal crowd, more the goth, pseudo metal type. The atmosphere isn't evil, it's more mischievous and it suits the music quite well. The guitar lines are beyond repetitive and after two listens I find them stuck in my head and haunting my dreams. Its really fucking catchy but so simplistically annoying, that even the thought of listening to this demo again puts me at wits end.
As far as "lite metal" goes it is somewhat refreshing. There isn't any whining that is characteristic of modern hard rock bands (Puddle of Mudd, Staind, and all that other dog shit) And the influence Eliphas Horn draws from is much more acceptable for the metal minded fan. I can't say that I enjoy it or would listen to ever again, but I can say that it is at least worth checking out.
If you are in the mood for something much lighter than what the normal metal fare then you may want to check this out. It's not revolutionary nor is it really good, but it is different, and could become somewhat popular in the near future. Just be warned to have annoying guitar lines in your head for weeks after listening.
