Musashi's Review:
I noticed that Hel reviewed the last Dipnoi release and gave it five skulls. I am not surprised. This band is awesome. They sound great and have a great 3 song single/demo. The style is raw and heavy. Dipnoi reminds me of a less-jammy version of Clutch with some alt/rock influence. Okay, they are not the heaviest band in metal, but they are good. One thing is for sure, Dipnoi does not sound like other Brazilian bands. They do not sound like Krisiun even though this CD was recorded, mixed and mastered by Tchelo Martins who has worked with Krisiun. Dipnoi does not sound like Sepultura or Soulfly. No, Dipnoi is not what I would normally associate with metal music from Brazil. There are no cookie monster vocals, bad raps or Amazonian drums. Dipnoi just seem to have a straightforward approach to making good heavy grooves.
It seems to me that Dipnoi actually spend time writing songs as opposed just useless riffing. That is not to say that their riffing isn't enjoyable. These guys can play really well, but they seem to focus on writing good songs. I can appreciate that and you should too.
Like any band that sings in a foreign language, their lyrics are weak. Nonetheless, I find that the flow and sound of the words works even though their meaning does not. Hel and I can agree on one thing: Dipnoi is worth checking out.
