  • Metal Militia's Review:
This is probably the best demo I've ever heard. As far as I can tell this could qualify as a professionally done EP. The production is stellar, the musicianship is awesome, and the kicker is, the members of Defile are 16. Defile play death metal and if they continue to improve they will have no trouble getting signed and could easily become one of the forerunners of the genre.

This four song CD has everything I look for in a good demo. The production is as good as it gets, every instrument can be clearly heard and all are well-mixed. The guitar tone is crisp and exciting, the drums are fast and brutal, the bass is clear, but not overpowering, and the vocals are just amazing. I would never expect a group of 16 year old boys to be capable of creating such an extreme form of music so proficiently

The only flaw is the lyrics, as is the case with most of the demos I get. Musically Defile outshine many bands with many more years of experience, but Defile show their age with their boring, tired, teen angst ridden lyrics. It doesn't detract from the album that much because, being a death metal band, the lyrics are harder to decipher anyway.

Included with the demo was a V-CD of Defile playing live at The Whiskey. Even though I didn't doubt the group's ability, they simply proved themselves by being able to pull all the songs off live and commanding the crowd's attention in the process.

While Defile may not play the most original brand of death metal, I do believe that they are just beginning to find their voice. They perform better than bands with years of experience and for this reviewer, that is proof enough of their ability to become a major player in the death metal scene.
