Metal Militia's Review:
There is almost nothing better than a classic hardcore record. Blood For Blood's Revenge on Society, Madball's Demonstrating My Style, One Life Crew's Crime Ridden Society, and anything by Sick of It All, all stand up as some of the best albums ever released. What do these album all have in common? What is it that makes them so outstanding? Unrelenting anger and furious disgust with modern society is the defining characteristic of the best hardcore bands. Forget death metal, nothing can compare with feeling of pure hatred that comes from a Blood For Blood album. Hardcore is the music of violence and rage and stands alone as the toughest music genre. From albums that beat the listener over the head to live shows where the fans are out to beat the living fuck out of each other, nothing can compare to hardcore. This brings us to Long Island's Destroyed By Anger. A band that seems to have the musical fury of some of the aforementioned bands, but vocally and lyrically are very weak. The first song on this two track demo starts off sounding like classic Blood For Blood, but instead of building in rage and intensity as the song goes on it gets weaker, the lyrics go from loud and angry to soft spoken and whiny. It's unfortunate, the guitar tone is menacing and vocalist Jay Fligman can deliver some tortured screams, however I am not convinced that he really has anything to be angry about. Instead of genuine it sounds angsty and ultimately weak.
The second track has less to offer and comes off feeling like bad nu-metal. Featuring the hallmark nu-metal guitar chug, the alternating vocal style of screaming and Jonathan Davis-styled clean vocals, and the repetitive drumming just aren't good.
I am not sure what style these guys are going for, they have potential to create some decent hardcore, but to do that they need to abandon the apparent nu-metal influence. If they are going for a more commercially viable sound then they should continue in the vein of the second track. Either way, they will need to improve all around if they wish to become bigger than just a local band.
