Kefka X's Review:
I've always thought of Spain and Portugal as having a really strong gothic-doom metal scene (i.e. Eczema, Hordes of Yore, etc.). Dark Embrace is another band to add to Spain's ongoing roster of bands in this genre. On paper, this music is pretty good: gothy, melodic doom with a bit of black metal influence. The keyboards, synth and cello definitely contribute to the band's ambience, as do some pretty decent clean vocals (and the bassist is pretty hot). Other than that, the recording is a bit sophomoric in production, especially in the drumming (the weakest department of the band, imo) which is turned up WAYYYYY too high for this sort of music. The not-so-clean vocals often at times sound cheesy, and at one point I thought I heard Lemmy doing guest vocals. I happen to like Lemmy a lot, however, and I REALLLLLY like the chick bassist, so I'll be generous and give this three skulls.No... wait. Hold on... Oscar ASUNDER? Damien STILLBORN?... nevermind, two skulls.
Oh well, you gotta start somewhere.
