Dguy's Review:
Okay, this review will be pretty succinct and to-the-point, because I am completely unfamiliar with this band aside from the information on this demo. Dark Deception are a melodic black/death metal band hailing from Hollabrunn, Austria who play a not-too-terribly exciting mix of melodic black metal in the vein of Dimmu and newer Immortal, with the occasional guttural death metal vocals. I was really hating this demo when I first put it in, because a majority of the first track, "Of Heaven's Lava," is generic blastbeating death metal. But as the demo progressed, I discovered that they were much more akin to the bands I mentioned. And for some reason, I find generic, trite black metal much more enjoyable than generic, trite death metal. So shoot me.For a demo, Path of Damnation sounds fucking great. A lot of bands on the Nuclear Blasts and Metal Blades of the world wish they sounded like this, I'm sure. One thing I like is that the bass ROARS. It was one of the first elements in the music that I noticed. And for being a pretty obvious ripoff band, DD are pretty decent songwriters. But if they're looking to make it anywhere, they're going to either have to a) totally compromise their integrity and start sounding COMPLETELY like the Dimmus and COFs of the world, or b) do something completely their own. Which I'm not entirely sure that they can do. So fellas, you better start studying Death Cult Armageddon like it's your dog-eared Satanic Bible, and hope for the best! But anyways, if you are a fan of new-school melodic black metal, you'll dig this. If not, you'll probably completely fucking hate it. Thrash 'til fucking death!
