It’s hard to call Power Transition Theory a demo. It sounds like a bona fide professional release. In this case it is not the production which makes it sound like a professional release. The production is good, but it is not spectacular. It doesn’t sound like a million dollar recording, but it sounds well recorded and well mixed. The tones are good and heavy. I could stand to hear some more kick drum in the mix. From song to song the quality fluctuates. Overall it’s well done.

What makes this sound professional is the quality and consistency of CLK’s songs and their style. CLK have already started to develop a "sound." They remind me a little of Tool because they have this dark flavor and texture to their sound. However, they have some more power metal in their sound than Tool. CLK write some interesting songs, musically speaking (I didn’t take the time to read the lyrics. Therefore, I reserve my right to comment on those later.) They have interesting chord progressions and use texture very well.

CLK also have some good vocal chops. It’s great hearing a band where everyone sings. Their harmonies aren’t perfect (they’re no King’s X), but they still sound cool and I’ll give them a couple of skulls for the effort.

These guys are good, real good. I don’t know what is in Lexington, Kentucky that’s worth a damn except for CLK. I look forward to hearing more from these guys.

According to their website, CLK is looking for a new drummer. Carlos Torres seems to live in Cincinnati. His chops are really strong on this CD. His shoes will be hard to fill.
