Savage's Review:
Cree8 is yet another Boston area band that I have had the privilege of reviewing. I guess I've been pretty lucky because I haven't received a bad demo from any of these bands. Cree8's five song demo Turning Point is full of non-stop in your face jams. They put forth just the right mix of metal and radio accessible hard rock.The guitars exude that crunchy feeling that is borderline stoner fuzz, only heavier. On "Abuse," the vocals show shades of Candlebox, only less nasal. Johnny Venuto has really great range and can actually sing. I especially liked his haunting melodies on "Blinded by Myself." Johnny possesses one of those raspy 80s metal voices which he blends well between deep outbursts and controlled highs.
Musically, they managed to keep me interested from start to finish. I was moved by the acoustic guitar passages on "All Over Now," which kicked into a very old school electric solo. The last song, "Backstabber" contained some pummeling riffs and heavier vocal lines and even had a GNR style solo. This is a great CD that I would highly recommend!
