Sabbath's Review:
"The Conscious reality is more existent than ever... In Masses May We Conquer."
(Still not completely sure what this means, oh well.)This is the feeble catch phrase Conscious uses to introduce them into the Extreme Metal world. Capricorn, Azrah, Mage, and Saedryn... Here we go with the code names, and pretend aliases. I was not sure what to expect from this "potato state" band, but by the end of the first track I was unimpressed with the drum mix. I think they could have done a lot better with the drum production, minus the intense trigger sound. The type of blast beat used on In Masses...is a bit boring; it is not tremendously fast like something typically imagined coming from a Black Metal band. The blast beats played here are more consistent with a mediocre release. What these guys are playing has been done before, and at a more superior level. I was also disappointed with the guitar sound. Their biography claims they have two guitar players, but I can only hear one.
Fans of Naglfar, Diabolic, and older Behemoth will enjoy this band IF they come out with a well-made, higher budget debut album. Compared to all the local material I have heard in Los Angeles and Phoenix, these guys are what I would call "inventive", but their sound is nothing original when put up against the big boys of the infallible European Black Metal scene. This demo is nothing more than a boring, repetitive attempt to sound like Immortal, but I do think Conscious may have a possible future in Metal if they work ten times harder at what they are shooting for.
