Musashi's Review:
Here is a rule that you can use: never use a live recording as a demo. Live recordings generally sound like shit. They are usually recorded by plugging a tape recorder into the soundboard. That means that you are going to get a mix that is mostly vocals, kick drum and bass. Unfortunately, this live recording sounded horrible even for a live recording. I mean, 2002 Live Battle At Lamour sounds like it was recorded by someone calling home on their cell phone and leaving a message on their answering machine. Here is another rule: do not send me shitty demos unless you want me to tear you a new asshole. This is already a top contender for the worst demo of 2003. From what I can discern about the music, it is mediocre at best. Their playing is sloppy. The entire presentation from beginning to end stinks. You have to wonder if the members of Combat are learning disabled or hearing impaired (or a little of both) because among the three of them they did not have enough sense to put together a demo where the listener can actually hear the music.
This is so bad that even I am speechless. I honestly think that there is something wrong with these boys or they are playing a joke on me. The third song, "Shake It Off" is three minutes of pure distortion with a bad drum beat. The fourth song, "Mind Melt" is a bonus studio track. Too little. Too late. This is only a slightly more polished turd of a song. Now that I can actually hear what they are trying to play and to say, I am left convinced of their mental defects. The music and the lyrics are juvenile and lame.
If you are like me, you sometimes get a little depressed and down on yourself. Listen to Combat and you will know that there are people out there far worse off than you. These poor bastards should have been smothered at birth.
