    So when I got my first shipment of review material from the fine folks at Metal Judgment, I got a few demos along with it. So I figured, why not? I'll give one of these a listen; newer bands deserve a bit of exposure.

    Not in this case.

    Cavitation is a five piece "thrash metal" band hailing from Southeastern Iowa, and boy, do they suck. A quote from their press packet can pretty much completely sum them up: "If you take squealing, chunky guitars, whammy bar solos, sick double bass drumming, and mix it up with some pissed off aggressive vocals, you get the idea of what Cavitation is all about." They claim influences such as Slayer, Testament, and The Haunted, and yet they play downtuned nu-metal so trite and formulaic it would damn near make Crazy Town shake their heads in shame. The even sadder thing is that I get the feeling these guys have a decent amount of talent that they're wasting on shitty music. Another thing I have to give them a bit of credit for is the production of the demo. It's pretty damn well done, aside from the double bass that sounds like me tapping on my desk with my fingers.

    I'd really like to write a longer review for this demo, but I'm still aghast and appalled that these guys had the nerve to call themselves thrash, so I guess I'm done. In conclusion, if you like Mudvayne or Korn, listen to Cavitation; it will be the sickest shit you've ever heard. If you like ACTUAL thrash metal, see the review I did of Sodom's new live album. Now, please excuse me, I have to go smash this demo with something heavy. Thrash 'til fucking death!
