Lugubrious's Review:
It seems during these times female vocalists are popping up everywhere. From Lacuna Coil to Arch Enemy, the voices escaping from these maidens' throats are catching ears, and of course catching eyes. Well with any new fad you get the good and you get the bad, but I don't think anyone could deny girl vocals are finally getting some respect, and very well deserved in my opinion. Bands such as Crisis who were doing this ten years ago were barely getting the recognition they should have received, but seasons change and the world has finally caught up to what has been going on for so long. The single biggest problem with having a female vocalist is of course it gets so much attention, leaving the rest of the band in the dust. Well, with that said, Kat, the vocalist for Bodyfarm, has velvet vocals that fit this band like a glove. These screams are filled with rage and anger, not some girly crap a whiny teenager with PMS can identify with. Nothing about this band is feminine. Bodyfarm has balls, some great big hairy ones, so guys, don't be afraid to get into this, your girlfriend will hate it, don't worry.
Musically the band falls into the metalcore/hardcore genre, but if it's not clear yet, Bodyfarm isn't girly enough to be metalcore. The riffs are powerful, making you want to jump into the pit and knock in some heads. During certain moments things begin to slow down, but don't be fooled - they are just playing possum. Beware, don't turn your head, for you will be blind-sided. If you wish to hear some good metal, check this band out. I can't say it is often that a band this young and not even signed yet has anything impressive to offer, but Bodyfarm's new three-song demo is sure to get your corpse moving.
