Blind's Review:
Damn it, these band names just keep getting dumber and dumber. Who the hell thought that "Big Baby Satan" would be good? Perhaps an Old Dirty Bastard (a.k.a. Big Baby Jesus) fan.Honestly, if I hadn't agreed to review everything that was sent to me, I would've thrown this in the trash immediately. Foolish band name, unprofessional looking CD, boring and amateurish press kit, etc.
Anyway, I turned the CD on, and lo and behold!, the first track sucked shit. The drums struck me instantly. The snare and cymbals sound very much like a drum machine. The bass, too--it sounds like something you'd hear on ...And Justice for All. If there is a bass, the guitars generally drown it out.
This hideous trend continues throughout the rest of the CD. For example, on track five, "Consumption," there're some really crunchy riffs. But then this whiney-ass "singing" begins, as do the Mortician drums, and the entire song turns into a pile of crap.
Tips for Big Stupid Satan for their next release:
- Get rid of that atrocious vocalist. He sucks ass. He sounds like a crybaby version of John Bush. Case closed.
- Vary the tempo of your songs. All mid-paced = tedious. I really had to struggle to listen to this disc all the way through.
- Your drummer eats dick. Have him learn some double bass tricks, tom rolls, and cymbal work. I play drums very casually, and if this album is any indication of his talent, I could smoke his ass pretty easily.
- As a matter of fact, don't bring out another album. Ditch the drummer and the idiotic name, and the singer, Larry Forman, and get another band.
Sorry to rip on this so badly, but I had to let people know before somebody decided to buy it--although I'm sure any veteran metalhead would pass it right by after seeing that accursed moniker.
Straight from their web site:
When a group of musicians that have done nothing but practice their craft day after day, hour after hour, sacrificing everything to be the best, get together...it's something magical...
This is not one of those times. That's the understatement of the year.
