Behemoth's Review:
Balthazor means "the king of all dark witches" and was formed in December 2001, with Ace Zepan on guitars, Irfan Utabach on drums, Ferdhyc Fierce on bass and Angga Nxtar on vocals. In the beginning Balthazor was influenced by and covered tracks from The Abyss, Satyricon, Impaled Nazarene and Dark Funeral. In July of 2002, they entered Dialogue Studio for the recording of their first mini album entitled Demonation Terrorhelizer - now that's a mouthful. The release contains six masterful tracks of diabolic indignation. This brand of music may be considered rough-edged black metal which features unique compositions of razor thin guitar notes coupled with bizarre screaming vocals and thunderous drums. Themes of tyranny, darkness and destruction are the basis for lyrical and music conception. Disc highlight: track number five "I am The Balthazor," all right then!
Balthazor deliver a concept-based album of mystical proportion by accentuating heavy and dark notes and eerie sound effects like the hoof beats of the phantom ghost. Overall, songs are well constructed with plenty of dark aggressive riffs and complexities of compositions are worthy of praise. The production is decent considering budgetary constraints. Interesting to see this level of darkness come forth from Indonesia!
