Musashi's Review:
Do you want to be Finnish? Sure, we all do. What could be better than being from some northern European country known for its metal manufacturing? Aurora K is a band that seems to get a lot of bang for their Markka (the Finnish monetary unit). I really like this two-song demo. The artwork and the production value are great. The first song, "11th Hour," has a riff that sounds like Gary Numan's "In Cars." Despite that it is a pretty good song. The vocals are crisp and clear as is the recording overall. The second song, "The Hopeless," is also well written and well recorded. Unfortunately, the video for "11th Hour" was not able to play on my computer. I was really looking forward to see Katriina crawl around in skimpy clothes on all fours while singing. Katriina's good looks are a strong selling point for this band, but that alone is not enough for any real success.
This is good demo and I would probably give it five skulls were it not for the fact that the overall vibe is not really metal. The sound is Lita Ford meets Bon Jovi, which although it might be very fun is not very metal. Aurora K has a strong hard pop vibe that squarely dates them around 1985. Therefore, my conscience dictates that I deduct at least one skull. I highly recommend that Aurora K make some real efforts to write some more contemporary music.
