    Holy crap! It's a really good demo! How unusual. This week's demo victim, Asbeel, hails from Poland and plays an excellent brand of power/thrash. Think of something like newer Iced Earth and you'll get the idea. The guitars are powerful - good, catchy, headbanging riffs - and a competent rhythm section gives Asbeel its strength. The lyrics are somewhat cheesy, but I don't think any of these guys speak fluent English in the first place, so I'll let it slide.

    The only weak points of this demo are the singer and the production. The singer doesn't have any power behind her voice. It seems as if she is holding back, probably because she can't give much more. If they can get a singer with some real strength then there would be nothing separating Asbeel from the rest of the known power metal bands. The production, while better than most demos I get, is still very weak. The drums are almost completely gone from the mix, the few times you can hear the drums it sounds like a kid beating on a cardboard box.

    The riffs are the best part of the demo, they are catchy and thrashy. The lyrics aren't that good, so I usually found myself humming along to the guitars instead of the words. Each song is different enough to prevent boredom, but each song flows right into the next. Since the demo is on tape this makes it hard to differentiate where one song stops and the other starts, but even if I could tell, I wouldn't be skipping any songs.

    Asbeel are not at all innovative, they are very similar to any of the dozens of power metal bands dominating the scene today, but they do what they do well. It's catchy, it gets me to bang my head, and it's a lot of fun. If these guys can stick with it, they will get signed in the future.
