  • Musashi's Review:
Metal from New York is special; it has its own distinctive sound and feel. Antipathy has that New York attitude. Their brand of old school thrash is hard and raw and gritty. It makes me feel at home.

The most outstanding feature is the wicked drumming of Alex Ghersini, who constantly pushes the tempo past normal human limits. He is fast and solid and brings the music to life. Samgar is the other focal point of Antipathy-- his heavy vocals and solid bass playing keep the band together. He is the perfect foil for Alex's kinetic bashing. Although Samgar's lyrics do not really move me, his vocal prowess is evident in his staccato delivery, which fits perfectly with the drums.

The thing I am not hearing, unfortunately, is good guitar riffing. The guitarists play very, very well. However, I always like to hear cool riffs that I will remember, and I don't hear any here. It takes until half-way through the third song to hear the first guitar solo. The solo is okay, but I usually expect to hear more guitars throughout the entire album. At least give me some cool riffs!

This CD is produced very well and is overall very good. I definitely think Antipathy is worth a listen if you are a thrash fan. However, I believe that legendary metal has legendary guitar riffs. Antipathy should keep this in mind.
