Slither's Review:
Amoricide (Killing Love?) are a young and confused thrash act from North Texas. By confused, I mean their style and direction are very unsure and seem to randomly alternate; sometimes sounding like competent Death Thrash in the vein of early Sodom or Possessed, while on tracks like "Bloodthirst" things just disintegrate into an orgy of stolen Metallica riffs and vocals that sound like they belong on Pantera's first "non-glam" record. It is hard to be critical of sound quality here; this demo was recorded by a friend of the band at their practice space over the course of five days. Given the nature of the recording process, the sound is surprisingly clear. The rhythm guitar tone is thick, and the drums and bass translate well. My one major sound complaint is the lead guitarist's choice of tone which is a terribly thin and nasal abomination. Think of Steve Vai's obnoxious Ibanez tone, and then turn the suck up few notches. The performance quality of Give Me Metal or Give Me Death is about as demo as it gets. The drums lose time frequently, the bass player is just following the guitar players with little regard for accenting the percussion, and the lead guitarist is trying really hard but ends up with a lot of pointless meandering. I am hardly in a position to totally bash these guys; I contributed to several fucking terrible demos when I was still in high school. Being a fan of a musical style and trying to imitate it for the first time pretty much leads to awkward first steps, but you can't get anywhere if you don't try. For now, Amoricide are pretty much playing for their own entertainment, but who knows what a few years of hard practice could bring. Amoricide gets two skulls for trying, but this project needs a lot of work.
