Best Immortal show ever, the cold chill of Norways best black metal with the bright warmth of Abboth breathing fire. NO one could ever compare to the pure metal that is Immortal - unholy forces of evil forever!

As many of you know, Immortal could not make it to our gig at Toronto. It's no big surprise to us anymore, musicians get stopped at the border for inane reasons (Samoth was held at the border when Emperor came, and Ihsahn, Trym, and the others were forced to play without a rhythm guitarist). We did however, get Krisiun, Angel Corpse, and Satyricon.Krisiun played a decent set, but this is Toronto and many people here seem to have trouble getting hyped over the unfamiliar, which seemed to be the case with Krisiun. Still a great opener, though my enjoyment of the set was hindered slightly by the fact that one of the bouncers confiscated my joint and proceeded to hound me for the rest of the set in case I lit up another. The music was fantastic: brutal, fast, heavy -- a metal experience that rightfully hailed the coming storm of Angel Corpse.
I don't know a great deal about Immortal, but I will dare say that Angel Corpse rightfully made up for their absence. The guitars, the solos, the drums -- it all just came together so beautifully that I doubt the imprinted image of the drummer's flawless speed and technique (precision like a machine, but frighteningly human all the same) will stay with me to the grave. In a word, Angel Corpse was fucking magnificent.
Satyricon impressed me, and it was at this point that I lost my restraint and entered one of the fiercist pits in the history of the Reverb's string of Black Metal headliners (I think). However, things turned ugly when several individuals decided it was suddenly cool to pull at people's hair, push up against others in a non-mosh, stick out spiked handguards at oncoming moshers and various other homosexual behaviour such as some sort of gothic polka dance. Had it not been for Satyricon's stage presence and blistering music, and specialized, jagged riffage that warps my THC induced mind in the most beuatiful of ways, I think the audience alone would have compeltely turned off my spirit for Black Metal that night. But one look at Satyr (great Elvis impersonation) doing what he so obviously loves and jamming to some of the most incredible riffucks and mind-bending speed reminded me of why I was there and why I love this band and this music.
Overall, it was a good night, a good experience and one hell of a party to end my turmulous second year at university. It wasn't perfect, there were a lot of assholes in the crowd and the security was anal, but where it counted, in the music and for what I could see of the bands I loved, it was very memorable.
