What's up Abyss! Death! and Hel!
I enjoyed your review combo: OZZ Fest vs. Tatoo. I was able to procure a pair of tickets for Sunday's Great Woods-Tweeter Center show (oddly enough, it was tough to find a taker for the second one, but after some convincing, my brother decided to join me). I thought I'd take a moment to dissect your reviews:

First off, I agree that M.O.M. is the worst thing ever! Is that music of some sort? I couldn't tell. How did they get on this tour? I was disappointed to see that you missed a couple of my favorites of the day. Static-X really impressed the shit out of me. Maybe they are not exactly metal in the traditional sense (they did do a Ministry cover and according to my brother they were dead on with that one), but they were still really fucking loud. And what about Incubus? I had seen them one other time with Mr. Bungle and System of a Down, but I didn't remember them being as heavy as they were Sunday. It sounded a bit like old STP (Core days). I think they will be around for a while. They've got something to offer a wide range of listeners. Pantera... ah, whatever. I guess it would be hard to beat the three bands that preceeded Pantera, but they didn't do it for me. The singer kept pounding his forehead with the mic which I thought was pretty funny. Blood was spilling down his face and all caked in his hair. One question: drink much?

So I give your reviews of Ozz Fest 3 middle fingers out of a possible 5 fuck you's.

I know it's tough to get from one stage to the other quickly, but I thought they did a good job of staggering the bands. I think you guys really missed out on some good shit while you were hanging out by the side stage.

Keepin' it real up in the feel!

To set the record straight, I just went to Ozzfest, not Tattoo the Earth. There isn't enough beer in the world to make me support Metallica by attending anything remotely supporting that bunch of fucking hypocrites and sellouts. I also think Slipknot is a bunch of Gwar ripoffs, but I digress.

Ozzfest 2000 was to be the best show of the summer... Ozzy, Pantera, Soulfly. I was hoping I might even like some of the other bands that were playing, but I considered my $60 well spent just for the aforementioned 3 bands. A whole day off from work, hanging with some friends, drinking beers and listening to metal. What more could anyone want? Boy was I disappointed. First off, the weather was shitty. It was cloudy, muggy and rained just enough to be annoying. The biggest disappointment, and anyone at the show can attest to this, was NO BEER!!! Some fucking brain surgeon (who was probably off in his country club drinking) decided there was to be no beer! WHAT THE HELL WAS UP WITH THAT!!! I guess you can't count on Ozzy for beer, huh Death? I was at Ozzfest from 2-11, and didn't have one sip of alcohol... I live 5 minutes from the venue and could've walked home! I would've too, if I could've gotten back in, but NO RE-ENTRY! The third problem, was the food lines. There were 2 lines for food and it took a half an hour to spend $10 for a personal pan pizza and a soda! Needless to say, things weren't looking too promising.

So, already in a despondent mood, I had to listen to some more of this rap/metal fusion crap. Give it a break... it all sucks! Even "I'm the Man" by Anthrax sucked and I LOVE Anthrax!

A friend of mine told me that Kittie was pretty decent, so I decide to check them out. While I was waiting, I started to check out the booths and all the people at the show. It was pretty cool, although there were a LOT of pissed off people there because of the beer thing.

Anyway, I was impressed by Kittie. Having never heard them before, I thought they kicked some solid ass. The crowd got a pretty good pit going too! I hope they sound as good on their album as they did live.

After Kittie came Soulfly, a band I couldn't wait to see. Max Cavalera was the heart and soul of Sepultura, and he proved why Soulfly is now sooo much better than Sepultura. Starting with "Eye for an Eye" and playing such kick ass tunes as "Bleed," "Umbabarauma" and "No," Soulfly was awesome! So much so, that was the t-shirt I ended up buying! Even the lack of beer didn't diminish how happy I was with Soulfly... thank God Ministry left the tour!

After Soulfly was Godsmack. Pretty good, but nothing to make me a fan. I ended up standing in line for food again... damn those concession stands! Following Godsmack was Pantera, and man was I glad to see those guys again! Phil looked like shit, yes, and I think Overkill's new stuff blows away Pantera's, but I love Pantera live. The set started with "Yesterday Don't Mean Shit" going right into "Walk." Man that was great! I happened to like the way they started "Cemetary Gates" and crashed right into "Fucking Hostile." "Becoming," "This Love," "A New Level" plus a couple of other songs off the newer albums kept my head banging for over an hour. They closed with "Primal Concrete Sledge" and "Cowboys from Hell." If I could give Pantera skulls, they'd get 5.

Next was the Master. Ozzy. 31 years old, and I've never seen him live before. I was so pumped, I didn't even need beer. The disappointments and frustration up to this point were forgotten. It was time for OZZY!

The stage was cool as hell. I didn't get a good view of the screen, so I missed most of the video at the beginning. Truthfully, I wanted music, not gimmicks, so when the video ended and Ozzy came up on his "throne," I was pumped! Opening with "I Don't Know" got me on my feet and my still sore neck banging again. The rest of the show was a mixture of classic Ozzy tunes and Ozzy spraying the audience with water. Thankfully I was in the balcony and didn't get wet. Mother Nature got me wet enough during the day, thanks. "Diary of a Madman" was awesome, but I think Ozzy's voice is going. Before I knew it, the show was over. Ozzy played for 1:18 minutes... I timed it. I left with mixed feelings. Soulfly and Pantera were great, Ozzy, well Ozzy was cool, but too short. Unless next year's tour features beer, Pantera, Overkill, Testament, Iced Earth, Anthrax and Slayer, I won't be going.

I have to say the best tour of the summer isn't Ozzfest or Tattoo the Earth... it's Kiss's farewell tour. Let's hope it isn't a final farewell.

I'm knocking Ozzfest down a skull for the lack of beer... that was WRONG!
