Travelling up by car from Philly, I was quite surprised at how run down this obviously once flourishing tourist town was. Hello from the Gutter was probaly inspired by this place. We stayed across the street at the Berkley Hotel which was'nt too shabby. Getting there about 3 PM, we were able to get a very nice buzz before the show, therefore toning down the hard feelings we would of otherwise had for a piss poor beer garden operation at this venue. Missing the very first band, we were able to take in Philly's own ORCUS with great delight. These boys are so ready for the big time and the crowds response to them made that obvious. I'm not just saying this because I'm from Philly, I'm saying this cause I know kick-ass metal when I hear it. The band Slack, who came on next, blew big donkey dick. Orcus should have had the slot before Overkill, but thats another story. At least I get to see them open up for Prong April 26th in Old Bridge, NJ. Needless to say, Overkill kicked bloody ass. They were actually my first concert as a kid when I seen the Taking Over tour with Testament(The Legacy), and Hallows Eve(Monument)open up.
