Submitted by Ryan Baltz (4/16/02, Pop's, Sauget, IL):
Now I must admit I'm not the biggest Motorhead fan around. I guess you could call me a casual fan. I like their music, but I only own a couple of their albums. I decided to go see this show when I found out that the Iced Earth tour wasn't coming to town. I was in the mood for a show and Motorhead were coming so it all worked out.

Speedeeler were playing their final song when we walked in, but that song sounded pretty good. Morbid Angel was next and they were horrible. When they were setting up, the drummer came out and checked his kit and he sounded pretty good, but when the actual show started, they sounded like shit. The sound was distorted and had too much feedback. I wasn't familiar with the band before the show and now I know I don't want to be. They had about half the crowd in front of the stage so it seemed that some were into what they were doing.

"We are Motorhead. We,re going to fuck you up!" Lemmy never seems to be one to beat around the bush. They opened with "We Are Motorhead" and they never looked back. An early highlight for me was the inclusion of "Damage Case." I was surprised that they only played one from their new album, but it was a good one with "Brave New World."

The first half of the show moved along quite well. Nothing spectacular happened, just a loud and heavy rock-n-roll show. But with the start of "Born to Raise Hell," they seemed to really turn it up a notch or three. It has been a long time since I have seen a girl on someone's shoulders throwing her shirt at the band, and I wouldn't really expect it for this band, but that shows how much energy this song started. Lemmy dedicated "Sacrifice" to that woman. They closed the set with the classics "Killed By Death" and "Iron Fist." The crowd was really ready for the encore and to no one's surprise, Motorhead delivered what are probably their two best known songs. "Ace of Spades" and "Overkill" closed out a great evening of beer, sweat, and good old fashioned heavy metal.

If the mark of a really good concert is a sore neck and ringing ears, then Motorhead obviously delivered the goods.
