Well this show was supposed to be IMMOLATION/INCANTATION and GOATWHORE. There were some other young trendy type bands playing also and all the kids left when they were done with their set list. Then Goatwhore's front man got onto the stage screaming.... I need more reverb on this mic. Then they blasted into some ungodly chaotic sounds. The drummer was pretty good, but I wish he would use his double bass skills more. The sound was pretty good for these guys. I never heard their music before, but their 50 minute show was damn good. I loved the backing vocals more than the front-man, but they blended well together.INCANTATION played next and I ran to the front of the stage right away. What I found very odd was that there were only about 20 poeple in the front and there was no pit. I made sure I was in the 2-3 man pit for songs like "The Ibex Moon" and "Sempiternal Pandemonium". They also played 3 straight tracks from "The Forsaken Mourning of Angelic Anguish", which included "Lusting Congregation of Perpetual Damnation" which blew me away. They were fast and loud, but Mike Saez's vocals were tuned a little too low and were hard to hear during the really fast parts. Overall they got better as the show went on, it was sad to see so few people there and it the crowd was not too active. Ten minutes after INCANTATION was done their was a fight and some guy ended up slicing up 3 or 4 people , and one of them was Mike Saez, the singer/guitarist for INCANTATION. It was a bloody mess and they had to cancel the rest fo the show. I did not see IMMOLATION that night and I was dying to see them. Overall I had an exhausting night, and it was sad that it had to end with Mike getting his arm sliced open. I'll never forget seeing GOATWHORE or INCANTATION that night. I can only give it 3 skulls due to the show having been cancelled.

Normally, I would rather stay at home on a Sunday night and watch the Simpsons, but a night of metal at CBGB's is usually worth letting my Tivo do its thing, especially when Lamb Of God is on the bill. It seems like I just saw this show at Wetlands not too long ago. Well not exactly the same show, but close enough. I have to say that Lamb Of God is becoming one of my favorite bands. These guys put on a great show. Tight, heavy, raw and intense. The CBGB's crowd was way more into the show than at Wetlands which gave Lamb Of God even more energy. I don't really know what was wrong with the Wetlands crowd, but the CBGB's crowd knows how to rock. Lamb Of God sounded and acted like they were headlining;maybe it won't be too long before they are.Skinless, of course, kicked major ass, too. The crowd was going sick. People were diving from the stage. Skinless was having a great time convincing people they were as "light as air" as they threw them from stage. Everything was going great until Skinless stopped playing. That's when things started to go bad.
Catastrophic came on and proceeded to suck the life out of the show. They were good in parts, but, overall, they really were, as their name suggests, catastrophic. The drummer was sloppy and the singer was annoying. Why on earth did this band get the slot right before Immolation? Politics! I won't be rushing to see them again anytime soon.
Immolation was really good. They aren't my favorite but, hey, they are hometown, New York Metal. That buys them some points. They put on a good show and sounded good. Unfortunately, the quality of the mix seemed to deteriorate throughout the night. Too bad for them. Luckily, they didn't seem to notice. Immolation played like the seasoned veterans that they are and rocked the house.
It was a good night in New York for Metal. We need more nights like this.
